The blue light doesn't need a second display

Special-purpose and emergency vehicles are built as one-off or small batch models based on standard production vehicles. Their equipment has changed radically in recent years, especially in the mid-range and premium vehicle classes. The integrated color display installed as standard is particularly relevant for the modification. It is ideally suited to take over the operation of special functions and the display of status messages. The complex installation of an additional screen is not mandatory.

What sounds so simple in theory is an enormous challenge in practice. This is because very different technologies are used for actuation, depending on the manufacturer and model. On the LVDS bus, for example, three different standards are applied: FPD-Link, GMSL and APIX. A solution according to the motto "one size fits all" is therefore impossible.

EDAG has developed its own Image Processing Unit (IPU), which is characterized by flexibility and adaptability. It is connected between the main unit and the display and provides switchable video inputs, opening up a range of different display options. In addition, the developers at EDAG take up the operating concepts of the respective vehicle type, so that operation is intuitive and thus as error-free as possible, even during stressful operational situations. Details on this technology and its possible applications can be found in our white paper "Controlling emergency vehicles via the integrated display".
