In vehicle development, the focus is primarily on technical details such as acceleration and fuel economy, the inclusion of digital assistance systems, or sophisticated features under the hood. However, innovations in the automotive industry are subject to legislative constraints. This is because, at the end of the development process, the manufacturer must demonstrate that the vehicle meets all regulatory requirements—a process known as homologation.
This is a prerequisite for market access. Today, market access is not granted by a single approval document; rather, it is determined by a regulatory landscape. This landscape encompasses a wide range of different aspects and their interplay, which must be mapped out within the organization. If there are gaps here, regulatory risks arise, such as the late integration of compliance functions or insufficient coordination between development, software, and legal departments.
