From Simulation to the Road

EDAG is using the cooperation with T3 Motorsport to create a realistic, detailed simulation landscape. Creating a virtual representation of the complete vehicle, vehicle groups and individual components, and predicting how they will behave under different conditions is an exciting research task in which graduates also regularly participate.

The racing team benefits from both the vehicle development and the optimization of the test runs. In the final analysis, however, the important thing is the ideal setting in the race, to get as near as possible to the optimum lap time. In complex research work, the corresponding simulation models are first developed and then validated, so as to obtain forecasts that are as realistic as possible. This means that it is possible, in virtual test runs, to determine how the vehicle will behave on the track, or how the tires will wear. The driver, too, can obtain valuable advice on how to achieve the best possible results with the vehicle.

However, even away from the race track, the cooperation yields valuable insights. This enables EDAG to expand not just its extensive simulation know-how. Some of the simulation tools can also be transferred for use in production vehicle development, for example the damper tool can be used to determine the damper's characteristic curve.

For more details about EDAG's simulation know-how and how cooperation carried out for motorsport also serves passenger car development, please see our presentation "Technical Cooperation with T3 Motorsport". Download the PDF here!
